The Men ruled tonight on Idol, in addition to the one woman who always rocks for me. For those of you who were concerned about Dolly Parton night, it was cool, right? She is a great songwriter, I just don't happen to be a huge fan of the way she sings her songs, but I pretty much liked everyone tonight -- for the most part. Let's start the remarks:
Brooke White -- "Jolene" I like this song and I thought Brooke once again found something that suited her and she sounded good at. Not particularly strong, but it worked. But Brooke better listen to me when I say this -- STOP TALKING. The patronizing "I like your hair Paula" comment and interrupting Simon incessantly so that Simon got cut off is a serious problem and is moving her down on my list, quickly. OK DOG BUT SHUT IT!
David Cook -- "Little Sparrow" First of all LOVE the haircut. I didn't know what they would do to make him look better, but they have done it. He looks so much better. And I just love his voice and was glad he fessed up to have using other people's versions of songs. For those who don't know, he copied versions of other artists for Eleanor Rigby, Billy Jean and Daytripper. Some he talked about (or Ryan did) and some he didn't. Not a big deal except he is recording these "new" versions for Idol and Idol is selling the songs on Itunes. So AI, as always, is making money off of someone else's arrangement who is getting no credit for it. Now back to his awesome singing -- his range is great. VOTE
Let me be clear though, the proper term for singing in that upper range that men sometimes do is called singing falsetto not "singing in your false" as Randy and Paula like to call it. Jesus that is so annoying!
Ramiele -- "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?" No BUH BYE
Jason Castro -- "Travelin'" I love that Dolly told him "I would dread to have those locks" It was okay, but is just not as strong as others tonight. I fear for him. OK DOG
Oh and does anyone else think Jason reminds them of that group Hanson?
Carly -- "Here I come again" I mean I just sit there watching her and trying to mimic what her mouth is doing in hopes that I can sing like her one day. I like that she took it slow and it was good, but the song wasn't as moving. And I love that even when she hits the high notes, she never screams. As for Simon's comments, who does he like? And there was no need to insult her outfits -- is he trying reverse psychology so people vote to save her? VOTE
David Archuleta -- "Smoky Mountain Memories" For me, when David A sings like this - beautiful, melodically, I don't care what he is singing. He is like Josh Groban - I just love his voice and am not really paying attention to the words even or if he is referring to Jesus. Great job by the little David and thank god it was not a repeat of the jungle theme song. VOTE and SOAR
Kristy Lee Cook -- "The Coat of Many Colors" The dumbest song from Dolly's options, but she did a good solid job and she won't be leaving but I can't talk about her. And what was with that snarky remark to Simon "Thank you Simon, Love you" Oh, just shut it. OK DOG
Syesha -- I knew someone would pick this and yes they will always be compared to Whitney, but I got to give her credit for sitting on the piano and belting that song out! Even with the extremely glittered eyes, she can sing -- I gotta give her props as Randy would say. OK DOG
Michael Johns -- It is very hard for me to talk about this. I love Michael Johns. He looked really good, he sang really well, he didn't sweat too much on his forehead, he didn't do any weird dancing and he sneered when he sang. LOVED IT. "It's All Wrong But It's All Right." Baby there wasn't anything wrong with that. HE'S BACK! VOTE
Bottom line? Michael Johns followed by David Archuleta and David Cook and then Carly. Ramiele and Jason on bottom with my hopes that Ramiele finally leaves.
One last thing -- The Bachelor is hysterical. I would like to play a game where I win money for guessing how many times he will go in the hot tub with a girl on a date. Seriously.
I am also loving that John Mayer song from "The Bucket List" -- I think it is called Say. It is stuck in my head.
Okay gang, I'm signing off from NJ tonight - Glen Ridge loves you all! Just remember,
don't be ashamed of your obsessions...
