Country Night

Let me begin by talking about Glee for a second. Last night, I cried. I thought it was such a touching episode and all of the songs about home hit me hard. I loved that they let the episode go a little musical theater over just pop in song choice. I wouldn't want it to always be that, but once in a while is nice. I've never been a Burt Bacharach fan on Idol, but hearing Kurt sing that song was insane. And Kristen doing the Wiz song at the end? Not to mention Mercedes's Christina rendition and Quinn being given a true heart. It was sweet and really tugged on the heartstrings and gave the characters another depth which nicely balances some of the over the top dramatics the show usually partakes in.

Now to tonight's Idol. I call it country night because several country acts are performing but no Shania -- she doesn't have an album ready yet, so this could be why, but I wouldn't have minded a blast from her past repertoire. Rascal Flatts opens the show with a decent Unstoppable and then Ryan says they are going to perform with Shakira later. Yikes, getting the insults ready to hurl as we speak.

Behind the scenes of the Ford music video. I like hearing from them, but do we need more from Ford? Then a promo for Shrek showing the Idols learning how voiceovers work and then see the film. Promo promo promo. This is 3-D too? Oh nice appearance by Cameron -- the contestants must be psyched to meet her. Antonio looks old, still handsome, but a lot older than I remembered.

Who should be in the bottom three? Aaron, Mike and Siobhan, but I think we may be surprised. Just hopefully not too surprised. Ryan is forming 3 groups of two on the stage. Siobhan heads to far end of stage, Aaron heads to the center, Mike is on the closest side. Uh oh, I don't like where this is headed. Lee joins Siobhan. Casey who rocked last night joins Michael Lynch. Crystal with her Bob Marley hat joins Aaron. I don't like this at all.

Mike/Casey, Aaron/Crystal, Siobhan/Lee. Ryan has Siobhan walk across the stage to join Mike and Casey and Siobhan, Mike and CASEY are in the bottom three. WHAT THE ****? If Casey goes home I will lose it. Lose it, lose it, lose it. The reveal of the bottom three was lame lame lame. I need to repeat everything three times.

Next week Harry Connick mentors top 5 with songs of Sinatra -- that could be super cool!

Carrie Underwood introduces Sons of Sylvia -- a band that must be managed by 19. They duet with Carrie on her new album - my favorite song on the album and are opening for her on her new tour. Weird country goth rock song with a violin. Don't need to buy this album.

Lady Antebellum!! I know Need You Now is a huge song, but I wish they did American Honey - love that song. Charles Kelly is so cute. CUTE CUTE CUTE

I lost that loving feeling as soon as Shakira and Rascal Flatts came out. WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD.

Mike, Casey and Siobhan. I hope Ed gets his wish and Mike goes. MIKE is safe? Oh my god. If we lose Casey and he can't be saved because Mike was saved. Bad times. Bad times. Bad times. I do believe that Mike and Aaron should have left before Siobhan, but right now I am hoping she goes. Please let the judges say something. Siobhan is going home. Casey is safe.

It is sad because she had potential. But she definitely did not shine as best she could be. She may have also suffered because the show went over and the DVR's cut her off. The end spot can be a problem when a live show cannot keep time. Let the judges say something! She looks good tonight and did her best performance - Think . I smiled at her scream this time. Go Siobhan. Oh boy, she went straight to her family. Ryan pimped her to the judges, Simon said he would miss her. Kara said she did great, Ellen said she would see her tomorrow on her show and Randy thinks she has an amazing career ahead of her.

Okay that's it -- Top 5 are Crystal, Lee, Casey, and two others who need to leave next. Things are getting serious.

Don't be ashamed of your obsessions, and feel free to let me know your thoughts on tonight via email, comment, text, phone. However you need to express yourself!

SHANIA!

Okay, so many things to say before we even begin. First of all, hats off to Gillian who is now styling Shania -- who is about to have her own show on the Oprah Winfrey Channel and has gone through much personal turmoil over the past year and has very peculiar personal style. I heard the stories and hats off to you for pushing her.

Shania -- biggest crossover artist ever. Biggest selling album by a woman ever. Let me tell you the truth. There are about 10 Shania songs I love. Otherwise, even I the country lover, am not a huge fan. She is a showman and did a lot of songs that mixed pop and country and rock that could come across as cheesy. But some of the songs were great. And I appreciated her voice because she didn't have a big diva voice. So actually, her songs could work very well for the contestants because they aren't forced to be Whitney or Mariah or even Queen or the Beatles who are so incomparable in terms of voice. And the contestants could really make the songs their own especially when they only have to pick six songs in total. Lastly, Shania was a great judge during the auditions -- she understands the mix of voice, personality, showmanship and talent. So let's get going.

Lee goes first and strums the notes of my favorite Shania song -- "You're Still The One." Crying already. Gillian picked her white blazer and silk cargo pants. FYI - she looks great. He changed the melody and then hit it up in his upper register. Brings back memories of David Cook doing Mariah. Very modern take. I like that he pushed it but as always, I wish I could hear more. Randy loves the song and thought Lee made it his own. Ellen thinks he's cute. Kara thinks he is so relevant. AGREE. Simon thought it was the perfect song for him. Kara cut off Simon and he was pissed. AGREE. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Remember when the season was all about the girls? There are four guys and two girls left. WOW. Oh but if Didi, Katelynn and Lily had only lasted.

Mike -- "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" A lesser known track. But again, well suited to Mike's style. The guy sings well. He took a country song and made it R&B. Not so compelling, wish he had stripped it or something, but okay. Is that enough in this small group? Randy thinks he is in the zone of who he is. Ellen thought it was like Luther and beautiful. Kara loved the connectedness. Simon agreed with Ellen about the Luther but said the performance was wet or girly. I get it as much as the other judges interrupted AGAIN. OKAY

Tomorrow night Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts. Interesting because Lady A is stealing Rascal's Best Group vibe all over the charts and awards. Let's see how they match up.

I wish Shania could have been up at the judging table -- I wanted to hear her reaction to each one.

Casey -- he needs to hit it so the losers out there don't kick him off before Aaron Mike and Siobhan. This guy is so much more relevant than those three. "Don't" Wow, forgot this song. Come on! He say he is going to sing it. Fantastic Casey! He sang it and hit the emotion without the showmanship of Mike. Genuine and real. Randy thought it was his best performance. Ellen thought it was where he belonged. Kara thought he didn't hide, he was vulnerable and raw. Simon thought it was his best performance so far and suggested he kiss Shania -- he just hugged her but that worked. Good for you Casey. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Can we give props for the theme -- it feels so fresh and genuine!

Crystal -- Weird outfit. "No one Needs To Know Right Now" Love that she is using the song to drop hints to her boyfriend. What a sweet voice singing this sweet diddy. I think Crystal can do the simple diddy. She can take that risk and it is nice to hear a laid back tune from someone who doesn't need to push it. Sweet Sweet energy. Good for her. Randy referenced Nickle Creek - funny for those of you might know. I can't imagine he listens to Nickle Creek. But yes I love that she did a country version of Shania. But the judges aren't loving it. They think it is believable and genuine but it isn't as big of a song. Simon says they don't like Crystal this week. Whatever -- I don't think it was because she was bad, she was just laid back. Shut it judges. I like Crystal saying bigger isn't always better. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Aaron -- "You Got a Way" Shania recognized his insecurity. What a great mentor. She told him to recognize that he has already made it. This guy has seriously reached puberty during this season. Or became a smoker. He focused and sang it. Unfortunately it was still not great pitch wise. He hit the big notes though, and country is his genre so I really hope for him he doesn't leave this week. That would be so sad. But what has happened to this kid's spark? Ellen hit it that this will be tough and everyone is doing well now, so basically Aaron is screwed. Why did he need to change the words? And sing it to his mom? Uggh. So sappy. Simon thought he was great tonight because this is his type of music. Based on the other's performances so far, I don't think Aaron should stay. But Mike could go too. BUH BYE? (Switched to OKAY after seeing Siobhan).

Siobhan -- "Any Man of Mine" Very country line dance song, but it sounds like she is going to switch it up. Oh but then the song starts and it is full on country. She does not fit into this at all. This gives country a BAD name. Corny, cheesy, painful, musical number. Time for Siobhan to go. That was terrible. I can't stop typing how terrible this was. TERRIBLE. The scream -- and that is not a belt or a high note, that is a SCREAM came back. GET OUT. BUH BYE Why were the judges into this? Please get rid of this girl. I hate her.

Order of the night?

CASEY (LOVED)
Lee
Crystal
Aaron (hey, it's his genre)
Mike
Siobhan

Let's see what happens!!! Don't be ashamed of your obsessions...unless you are obsessed with The Hills or The City or Kell on Earth,, Then you should be ashamed.

Idol Gives Back

We open this heartwarming show with President and Mrs Obama. What a difference from the last time this show was on and the Bush's opened. Enough said on that.

Ryan is hosting the show in the studio and Queen Latifah hosts from the Pasadena Civic Center. The Idol Top 12 do an opening number in all white -- Crystal got a nice spotlight. And finally the number was live. Funny how the numbers are choreographed for the contestants to just walk around the stage and make new formations together. So weird.

Here comes the heavy stuff. Jennifer Garner in Kentucky. Victoria Beckham with two kids from California live on stage. Nice stories of how help can help. I like the old format where the judges and Ryan were in the bigger venue. This feels a little stripped down, but maybe we don't need the glitz to help.

Rusell Brand and Jonah Hill do a bit about getting their celeb friends to help that fell flat. Surprise - they don't have celeb friends. Wah, wah. Ryan is so off this season. His weird banter with the top 7 about they are feeling did nothing.

Black Eyed Peas perform. I noticed at the Victoria's Secret show that this group has super dynamic songs, but their performance is similar to the Idol Top 12 -- each group member just walks around the stage. They like digital effects. Will I Am was off and the mix of the music was not good. Boring. Fergie did everything she could to save it. It probably sounded good to the live audience. And Rock That Body is appropriate to Idol Gives Back?

Ryan in Kenya discussing Malaria. Harsh showing of a woman dying. After the break, I thought they were going to go to results, but it was a George Lopez skit where Lopez judges the judges. He did okay with Randy, was funny with Kara, bombed with Ellen and bombed with Simon. No wonder why Conan is getting his time slot.

Ford Commercial and then they really go to results - yuck I don't like this in the middle of the show. Crystal and Casey get brought to the center. Neither has been in the bottom 3 before. Crystal is safe and Casey is in the bottom three. NO! Aaron and Lee come to the center. Lee is safe and Aaron is in the bottom three. Fine. Now a performance? This is not inspirational.

Joss Stone and Jeff Beck. Once again, not an inspirational song. Sad moment with Kara and little babies in Africa. Morgan Freeman (the man who is sleeping with his step granddaughter) comes out. I shouldn't say bad things since he is trying to help. Randy goes with Morgan to Mississippi.

Alicia Keys comes out and sing Unthinkable - great song but not inspiring!! Who put this show together? Let me take it over! Oh she goes into Empire State of Mind. Great song, but not inspiring. I should stop with this comment because maybe I missed the point of the show (although the past 3 were inspiring). My new shortened version of this comment is TINI. THIS IS NOT INSPIRING.

Back to Russell and Jonah who tried using celeb look alikes but then had OctoMom -- and it was really her TINI. Jim Carrey came out and ran away. TINI.

Carrie Underwood comes out and sings her song Change which is on her album. THIS IS INSPIRING. FINALLY, the right moment. Can I also just say that Carrie did an amazing performance of John Fogerty's Traveling Band with Miranda Lambert on Sunday night's ACM Awards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oOZRKshrtM Miranda is one of my favorites and won album of the year and female vocalist of the year on Sunday and it was just an amazing night. Wow 36 cents of every ticket is going to Save the Children from her upcoming tour -- that is super cool.

Ellen DeGeneres spoke about Feeding America with David Arquette. Elliot Yamin and Kara were in Angola and you can see their efforts online -- really? Out of two hours, you couldn't get rid of Russell Brand and Jonah Hill and show the actual full story on AIR? TINI

Ryan sat down with Bill and Melinda Gates. Ryan attempts at a serious journalistic interview. Failure. TINI.

Wanda Sykes came out and was funny. With the exception of the nipple jokes to Simon -- not in good taste and was only funny when Jimmy Kimmel did it a few years ago. Back to results. Casey and Aaron in bottom 3. Crystal and Lee are safe. Siobhan, Mike and Tim go to center of the stage. Siobhan is safe. Mike is safe. Tim is in bottom three. Should have been Mike, Tim and Aaron. Not Casey.

Back to being inspired. David Cook hits the stage. And goes to Ethiopia and sings better than most of the Idols this season while sitting in a poor village. He is amazing. So sweet. Oh Annie Lennox piece -- this always brings me to tears. She is truly amazing. My tears have started. Annie couldn't get to the US because of the volcano. Wait -- the little girl she was visiting is doing better! What an amazing story. WOW. Annie comes on via satellite. This woman is inspiring.

Mary J comes out with an all star band and they do Stairway to Heaven. Simon does his story with an amazing Dr Jon. Idol is on my last nerve with going over on time. Thank god I'm home tonight. Uh here is a word of advice. Kill the results dramatics and the not funny skits. Give us a tight show of the inspiring videos, inspirational singing and then just say who has to go home. Done and dusted.

Elton John -- he has a real story to tell. He is very involved. Beautiful Your Song.

Back to results. Next week Shania is the mentor and they sing her songs. Tough week for the guys, but there could be cool stuff. Aaron is safe and my heart skips. Tim is going home. Okay, that's okay, he redeemed himself. And at least Casey is safe.

I might just be jaded, but this season is not holding up for me. Come on Top 6, BRING IT with the country!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good night my friends and remember, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...

Someone used my catch phrase last night (yes you Lauren) and I gotta say, I think it is the next biggest Idol catch phrase. Forget Dawg and Seacrest out - -I declare "Don't be ashamed of your obsessions" the next big thing. There, I said it.

Will the Idols Inspire?

Alicia Keys is the mentor tonight, which is really exciting for me. I love her and her new album is just so moving and perfect. Let me say that I took a look at the songs the Idols could choose from and it was such a weak list. 1/3 of the songs have already been performed on Idol and 1/3 are songs by past Idol contestants themselves (Kelly's A Moment Like This, Fantasia's Believe, etc.) So I don't know how they could do well. Plus giving this competition 1 hour for 7 contestants means such short performances. I think I will hate the judges comments because they will keep picking on song choice when the contestants were so limited.

Casey -- "Don't Stop" Fleetwood Mac hit. I love Casey, but I hate the background singers. But his raspy voice is great. Randy and Ellen thought it wasn't new. Kara thought it was a step back and Simon hated the song choice -- surprise -- I nailed their commentary before the show even started. VOTE like crazy because he can't go yet and this performance going first may not compel anyone to vote.

Lee -- My fave right now. "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel. Alicia gave him great advice. His voice gives it originality, but something is off, I wish he had just done it acoustic? Oh I know what is wrong -- he barely got to sing two verses. Oh I am so mad about this week. Randy thinks he is a great artist. Ellen thinks he has so much soul and depth. Best performance? Now let me be clear. I LOVE him, but I wanted to hear more, I did not get enough. I just watched it again and it was very good, but he wasn't allowed to have a moment in such a short time. Kara thinks this was his moment. I want to hear the iTunes version (which is the complete song). Simon thinks it was sincere, emotional and inspirational and current. Absolutely brilliant. Okay, I'll take it because Lee needs to stay and get to sing a whole song. VOTE

Captain Sully is in the audience. Wow, this guy is really famous.

Tim -- "Better Days" I love this song. LOVE this song by the Goo Goo Dolls. When I saw the list this was the song I wanted to hear most. Like that he tried to build it, but this is a rock song, not a violin number. He needed more support from the arrangement. I wish these people would put down the instruments. I'm sick of none of them moving around. Tim was okay, but I had high hopes for the song and this did not cut it. Ellen said he was soup of the day and today she did not like it. I agree. Tim smiled at Kara's criticism. Simon said it was a let down and I agree. He has been doing well, so I guess I thought with this song especially he would bring up his game. OK

Aaron -- "I believe I can fly" Alicia thinks it could be great. If he really soars. Is it just me or is Aaron hitting puberty during this show and is his voice changing? His body language seems to have given up. Stand in one place, with conviction and belt this sh** out! Much better than his recent performances, but he doesn't do anything to hold the audiences attention. Randy thought good job with a giant song. Ellen thinks it was real good. Kara thought by the end he got there. Simon thought it took guts to take on that song but it wasn't good. BUH BYE I don't need to hear him anymore.

Siobhan -- "When You Believe" Oh boy, I sense the drama is about to come. Alicia is very impressed with her voice. Stop holding back, let it all out. I feel like this is a soprano from my chorus group trying to sing solo. She is capable of singing, but her style is too weird for me. I can't stand her. Are we in 1979 weird TV variety show? It is retarded. Randy did not like it. Ellen liked it. Kara thinks she sounds like she is in a musical. Simon thought it was old fashioned and hated her weird outfit. They celebrated what made Adam Lambert different and unique because he was entertaining and great, seeing Siobhan makes me feel bad for all the bad things I said about Adam -- he was a thousand times better. And then her weird explanation made me so uncomfortable. OK I guess.

Mike -- "Hero" by Nickleback. This guy knows how to change it up enough to suit him. My problem is that this song does not have much range, but I like that he slowed it down a bit. But Chad Kroeger is not some superstar singer. Another reason why the song list was so bad. He did a good job with his 30 seconds of song. No seriously, better than several others tonight. Randy and Ellen liked it, Kara did not, Simon thought he sang it pretty well, but it was not inspired. Simon, don't criticize song choice - did you see the list??? ARGH. OK

Crystal may get cut off, very stressful. "People Get Ready" Alicia loves her. I liked it from the first second. Love the accapella beginning. Love her gospel overtones. She is believable. Did she get more time or was it so good that it felt so long? Why the crying? She freaked me out a little. Randy gave her the standing O. Ellen said she is beautiful. Kara said she schooled all the other contestants. Simon said that was inspirational and liked seeing her emotions. I agree that this was in a completely different class than everyone else. I'm scared that she is fragile. But she is amazing and you know what? Kelly was fragile too.

In order of preference:
Crystal
Lee
Casey
Siobhan?
Mike
Tim
Aaron

Honestly, of the last four, I don't care anymore, but I think it is time for Aaron to go.

Today was asked if I was a GLEEK. Totally. I love the songs, the stories are so twisted that they are so funny. Such a great fun ride and I can't wait to see the concert! And now I can get to the Madonna episode!!

Til tomorrow folks and Idol Gives Back. Get out your tissues and check books.

2 go

I don't really have words for the lipsynched opening montage number. It is a singing competition -- why do they need to pre-record the medley?

Wow, straight to some results. Casey stands up. He did a nice blowout tonight. Aaron stands up. Andrew stands up. The three go to the center of the stage. They can't be all safe, so someone is going right away. Andrew is out. That was quick. Casey and Aaron are SAFE. So nervous about second person now -- I thought it was Aaron. I think it is Big Mike. I don't think he won over enough of people to beat the last place of last week. Poor Lee, his best bud is going home. Andrew's end song cements the choice in my mind. BUH BYE Andrew - you burned out fast.

Brooke White and Justin Gaston performing. Psyched. But first Elliot Yamin and Kara DioGuardi head to Africa preparing for Idol Gives Back next week. I'm already tearing up.

Brooke was great to hear again. Justin, not so much. This guy is really trying hard to be a star. First he competed on Nashville Star where Billy Ray Cyrus hosted. He got kicked off. Then he tried another way to fame by dating Miley Cyrus. Now he is on If I Can Dream. I think his chances are running out.

Back to results. Bottom row heads to center. Tim, Crystal, Mike, Katie, Lee, Siobhan. Crystal is safe. Siobhan is safe. Lee is safe. Tim, Michael or Katie are going home.

Next week is Inspiration week for Idol Gives Back and Alicia Keys is the mentor -- awesome. We get to look on iTunes for the songs they get to choose from - that's cool.

Adam Lambert comes out with crazy effects and What do you want from me? His voice is beautiful. No one this season comes close to that voice. He wasn't my favorite to win, but I give him credit (and always did) for that voice.

Tim, Katie and Mike. Tim is safe. And then Ryan reveals that one is going home and the other wasn't even in the bottom three. Katie is going home. I think she had potential, but was never going to break through. So bottom three was Katie, Andrew and? Tim? We won't know.

So our top 7 are: Lee, Crystal, Casey, Tim, Siobhan, Mike and Aaron and I think that is my order for them right now as well. Nice that Andrew and Katie got a proper send off. Boy the tears are flowing. But at least they get to tour! Come on, that is a big deal.

On to next week.

Don't be ashamed of your obsessions...

Glambert adds his spice

I'm torn on this week's mentor. On the one hand, Adam Lambert added a lot of excitement to last season, on the other hand, does he have the experience to be a mentor? Especially when two contestants need to go home today? There is no question however, that I am extremely excited for Glee which will follow tonight's episode. Got myself ready with some Glee music today.

The theme this week is Elvis -- there have been great Elvis moments in the past (Jon Peter Lewis) but things can be shaky with such well known songs. Knowing the Idol Creator Simon Fuller's company owns all rights to the Elvis legacy is the simple reason why this is the theme. Ryan explained that Adam was chosen to mentor because he had Elvis's showmanship style. Okay. Another reason is that producer Ken Warwick said they feel bad that he didn't become the success he should have because of his horrible performance on the American Music Awards. Matthew Morrison from Glee is sitting right behind Ryan.

Crystal -- "Saved" She is going Electric. She seemed really relaxed tonight. The gospel vibe was great. She had to really stay in her upper register which was not as melodic, more of the gospel version of the scream, but it did not bother me. Jane Lynch is sitting behind Simon -- it is a Glee fest. The judges loved Crystal. As they should. VOTE

Andrew -- He is kind of a dud. Sweet, but dull. Love that Adam was bored by his rendition. "Hound Dog" Cool crooner vibe. Didn't rock my world, but okay he didn't embarrass himself. Randy called it not good karaoke. Ellen thought he pulled it off. Kara hated that he was dragging his mic around. Andrew knows these judges would not have saved him last week. Simon thought it was lazy and the aura of his coolness has been sucked out of him. Jane Lynch's mouth is hanging wide open. Ellen had to defend herself. Andrew is broken. He just could not hear it, I'm sure so he is playing to the audience. BUH BYE

Ryan's mom Connie is in the audience -- cute.

Tim -- "Can't Help Falling in Love" I can't believe this guy is still here. I think Adam thinks he is cute. Tim said he is going to show us that he knows what the words mean. Ryan called him "Turban." I had to pause. Tim played acoustic guitar and did a nice job. He spinned the melody into a more modern version with his voice. Ryan is dancing with a guy in the audience. Maybe being broken early is good for Tim. He did a nice job again. But he did not go into his falsetto at the end like Adam wanted him too. Randy liked it. Ellen compared liking him to enjoying her 3rd shot of tequila. Kara thought it was his best performance. Simon called him zero to hero. VOTE (I can't believe I am saying this).

Lee -- "A Little Less Conversation" My favorite. Adam told him he shows no emotion on his face. I already know I am going to love this. God his voice is so sexy. A rock jam. Can you imagine him and Crystal in the finals -- what a great show that will be. This guy is awesome. I loved it. Randy loved it, Ellen loved it, Kara thought he went for it vocally -- the vocal was fire but he is too serious. Simon told Kara to shut it -- "it is about nailing the song -- that was on the money, full stop". AGREED. VOTE VOTE VOTE he is adorable.

Aaron -- "Blue Suede Shoes" I think Aaron was afraid of Adam. Adam looked 4 feet taller than him. Aaron said that he doesn't think the song fits him but he is going to do it anyway. Excuse me? Why open the door to that? Now I know why -- because he is embarrassing himself. He put the country twist on it, but his performance is scaring me. He is twisting his hips around. His voice is okay, but he looks uncomfortable. Watch the judges love him. Randy half liked it, Ellen gave him and A for effort. Kara thought it made him young and more relevant. (Okay she didn't say relevant, but I thought she would have). Aaron was coughing up a storm. Simon did not like it -- thought it was old. I think he will be in the bottom again. And maybe going home. BUH BYE

Siobhan -- She styled her hair like Glambert - hysterical. "Suspicious Minds" Another favorite song. Just remembered Daughtry did this. So good. Adam made her speed up the song. The two bonded over being different. Oh my god, her performance reminds me of a weird 70s variety show. Did she always sound like this? Last week and this week she is doing this weird dramatic voice. She got to go into a gospel wail. The end notes were fantastic though. Randy thinks she can sing (really?) Ellen liked it. Kara said exactly what I thought -- she has two voices. This weird quiet lilt versus the screaming. Simon thinks it was erratic and screechy. Siobhan looks so angry. But she made a good point that even she can't pinpoint herself into one type of singer so if she can't label herself, why should they keep trying to? Well said. VOTE, she should still be there over Andrew for sure.

Michael -- "In the Ghetto" A solid vocal performance. This man has such a nice voice. It was a little sleepy as Randy pointed out, but it was solid. Really he should leave before Andrew and Aaron? I can't believe Tim is not in that equation, but Tim is doing better right now. Should Michael have been saved. The judges think so. And I am waiting to see who leaves tomorrow to decide. Simon thought it was terrific. VOTE

Katie -- "Baby what you want me to do" Adam told her to show that anger that she has at the judges for always ripping her apart. I hear more tone in her voice this time. It's fun. A little Kelly Clarkson edge, but she lost the pitch a few times. Didn't blow me away. Randy liked the vocals and thought it was entertaining. Ellen made a joke. Kara liked the attitude. Simon thought it was loud and annoying but thinks the audience is all that matters. OK

Wow almost all of Glee is there.

Casey -- Last week was so great. "Lordy Miss Claudie" I'm not sure that is the title. Nice blues rock song. Shout out to Amy and Bob -- he sounds like Eric Lindell. This guy is so cool. And he wore the ponytail which I love. Solid performance, professional. I got into it, but I wasn't jumping up and down either. Randy and Ellen wanted it to be more exciting. Kara thought it fell short. Simon thought it was a wasted opportunity but his vocal was good. I can see that. VOTE for sure, this guy has to stay.

My order:
Lee
Crystal
Tim (what?)
Casey
Michael
Siobhan
Katie
Aaron
Andrew

Aaron and Andrew need to go, fine if Katie leaves as long as Andrew does. I need to give a shout out to 24 and Lost and Life Unexpected. LOVE and Private Practice is breaking my heart this season it is SOOO GOOD.

Till tomorrow, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...they can get you through hard times.

I hear it's a shocker

Okay, so Ryan tells us it is a shocking vote result. Let's cross our fingers. Opening weirdo medley of Beatles songs. Then a Ford video. But since i know there is supposed to be suspense, I am now eager for shock. Results.

Ryan goes to Siobhan and sends her to the center of the stage without clear explanation. Then Crystal gets sent to the center of the stage without explanation. Katie gets sent to the center of the stage without explanation. All three girls. Randy says these girls are not going home. Crystal is safe and goes back to the sofas. Are these the bottom three? Oh Ryan and your twisted ideas, Katie and Siobhan are safe as well. So that means that three guys are in the bottom three. Aaron, Andrew and Tim. That's my call. I can admit now that I jumped into the show late and saw the three girls standing in the middle of the stage and I was shocked, but it was a ruse. I guess.

Now Jason de Rulo, Kara's artist on her label (she has a label?) I always think of the Andy Samberg digital short when I hear "Whatcha Say?" So funny. He was fine. Kara gave him a standing ovation. He is so not her style. I don't get it.

Gaspy!! He is sporting long hair, combed down in the front. But he is redo'ing his IMAGINE single. REDO. REDO. But you know, he can show Aaron a lesson or two.. Gaspy never switched it up much, but he sang his head off. And he made it two final two and Ed wanted him to win. This kid needs a good producer so he can make a great record because his voice is actually good. But he isn't an artist, which is why he hasn't been commercially successful.

The guys get split into 2 groups. It breaks down to Lee, Casey and Tim versus Michael, Aaron and Andrew. I assume Michael, Aaron and Andrew are bottom three. But Ryan likes a twist, so who knows! Ryan puts Ellen on the spot. Which group is bottom three? But at least she answers. Michael, Aaron and Andrew. She is right. Wow, Tim got out of the bottom three. I can see why Michael is there, very controversial performance. Scary part is he actually can sing. Aaron gets sent back to safety. Now I feel bad for Michael. Andrew needs to go in these two.

Rihanna needs a hit song, and this is not it.

Bottom two Michael and Andrew -- two fathers up on stage together, that tugged on my heartstrings. Andrew is safe. Michael sings This Women's Work. Come on -- can we admit this guy never sang a bad note? Come on -- Katie, Aaron, Andrew they all hit bum notes. Will the judges save him? The cameras focus on him and his wife crying in the audience so we can't really tell what is going on with the judges. I swear to god if my DVR cuts off. I need to extend on results night.

Judges. Simon says they all wanted what he did tonight last night. They only have one save. It is unanimous. THEY SAVE HIM. Kara is thrilled. I love Simon says it was unanimous (doesn't it have to be?) The judges are hugging each other. His wife is thrilled. I think that is great, because they cannot let the imbalance of the bad rule out the top. BUT this means two go home next week which his freaky -- they need to be at the top of their game to stay. Considering Andrew, Tim and Katie plus Aaron and Michael have seen the bottom, hopefully my faves Lee, Casey, Crystal and even Siobhan (by a thin thread) will make it through to continue competing even with two going home. People, you need to all start voting!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god, I am so stressed out.

And I will never be shamed of my obsessions...

Top 9 Takes on Lennon / McCartney

Nervous, nervous, nervous. Last week showed sparkle, but this season needs sparks. There are great memories of this theme from Season 7 of the Greats as I call them. And this group hasn't shown the most originality. I think Simon actually said it well that some can be original, but changing up the songs can also be tragic. Let's see how it goes and if we can see Ed and Mark in the audience!

Like the bits with the contestants talking about each other. Sweet and clever.

Aaron -- "The Long and Winding Road" He is smart at picking songs that suit his voice style. But he seemed nervous or a bit out of sorts in the beginning. Lacked a wow factor. Sweet but no sparks. The judges felt it got drawn out as well. Simon rolled his eyes at Aaron when he asked why he picked the song. Ed, did you boo Simon? It sounded like him! I'm saying OK for now because I think someone else (or hope someone else whose last name rhymes with turban) will do worse. After watching Tim, I say BUH BYE may be coming Aaron's way.

Katie -- She showed some spunk saying she will go to prom to whoever voted for her most. "Let It Be" Beginning sounds nice. I don't think she has shown this side of her voice. This is a tough song to do because so many people have covered it, but she seems to be bringing some originality to it. Nice tone. Definitely her best performance. I'm not jumping up and down, but she should be happy with that. She showed her soul style so you know it was Katie. Randy thought it was hot. Ellen says she will not be in the bottom 3. Kara is so proud of her for blossoming. Simon thinks she leaned country which is why it was good. Kara then sang her head off demonstrating the soul riffs. Interesting that Ellen does not get in the middle of the confrontations. OK but she should be proud.

Can't wait for Glee. Enough with the word blossoming.

Andrew -- "Can't Buy Me Love" with a twist he says. He is in the Michael Lynch spot behind the judges. Reminds me of a Barenaked Ladies sound. I'm worried that his arrangement maybe made it sound older instead of cooler? He gave it personality though which is what Simon wanted. Randy thought it got corny. Ellen made a funny. Simon thought it was irrelevant. Buh Bye I think for Andrew.

Michael -- Big Mike "Eleanor Rigby" Uh oh, David Cook territory. Look at the military jacket! The soft soul beginning gave it his unique voice. He is starting to really show some musical chops with these arrangements. And his singing is effortless. I really liked it. Kara thought it was FIRE. She saw some of the sparks I was talking about. Well done I say. Simon didn't love it and thought it sounded like a musical. He got booed again. I don't agree with him. Ellen is silent again. Randy says it shows relevance because it has a Glee tinge in its theatricality which is relevant. VOTE

Crystal -- "Come Together" She is taking on Carly Smithson. I totally thought this would be great for her, though. She is cool. But I thought she looked at her guitar too much. Something wasn't connected. She still blows the Mama Sox off of all of the other contestants, her voice is insane, but something was off in the performance. I agree with Ellen that Crystal always sounds unique and makes it her own. Kara thought it was one of her favorite performances of Crystal's. Simon thought it was current and terrific. Okay, maybe I should watch it again. VOTE (of course because she is amazing) Love how much she is enjoying herself too.

Tim -- "All My Lovin'" Okay, I gotta say, he pulled it off. He sounds like Paul McCartney and that was to his advantage. Well sung, not overacted. He did okay. He is still not one of my favorites, but if he had sung like this before, he wouldn't be my least favorite. The judges thought he did well. And Kara and Simon gave him credit for taking their previous criticisms well. Love that Simon pointed said he had no "winjing" Umm what word is that? OKAY

Casey -- The goldilocks hair is out tonight. I do like the ponytail better, but this guy is soooooo good looking. "The Jealous Guy" I don't think I know this song but I'm psyched. I still hear Eddie Vedder in his voice. He is another one who always sounds modern because of his voice. He is a really good guitar player. This is a moment. Wow. I loved that. He finally showed off his voice. I am jealous of any girl who gets to date him. Randy dug it. Ellen thought it was his best performance because he poured himself into the song. Kara loved the vulnerability and depth. Simon said it was the best performance of the night. Very very impressed. ME TOO. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Tomorrow night is Rihanna, Archuleta and someone else. Fingers crossed for Gaspy.

Siobhan -- so glad Lee got the pimp spot! "Across the Universe" Michael Johns took this on and didn't succeed. Please don't be weird. The nasal quality is too strong. She is trying too hard to keep it soft. The drama is killing me. I hate this. And I made a not nice comment in my head about her friends in the audience that I won't write for fear of being too mean. Randy pimped the artistry. Ellen is a fan because she marches to the beat of her own drum. Why are they drinking the kool aid? Kara is as confused by Siobhan as I am by her comments. Simon brought her to tears asking about the song and I am uncomfortable. The booer interrupted again and they showed him this time. OKAY because she shouldn't go yet, but I'm not fully buying it. Earl the booer got to come up on stage.

Lee -- I can't wait. "Hey Jude" Wow this is a big song to take on. His rasp should be great. Love his tie and jacket. He is so cool and contemporary. He is really showing his personality. One of the best versions I HAVE EVER HEARD OF THIS! Love the drama of the bag pipe. I want a full version of this. AMAZING AMAZING. Downloading immediately. WOW WOW WOW. His voice was amazing. I want the judges to go crazy over this. Kara -- what was off with this? Is she crazy? Simon just criticized the bag piper. Come on judges, this guy is awesome. VOTE VOTE VOTE.

Inside info from Ed and Mark -- the booer was a plant! They saw him eating with the crew after the show! Shocking.

This was a great night. Great performances, moments were made and Lee and Casey are fighting for my heart. Here is my order for the night.

Lee and Casey -- I can't pick between them right now. Lee brought me on a journey of energy and commitment and Casey scooped out my heart.
Crystal
Katie (I know, shocker!)
Michael
Siobhan
Tim (even more shocked!)
Aaron
Andrew

I still would be okay if Tim went, at least he redeemed himself. Aaron did not connect with me at all, but at least he was not wrong in his choice like Andrew was. I think Andrew may go home tomorrow.

Should be an interesting results night. I miss Didi.
