First, Simon retracts from some of his statements last night and neutralizes himself as usual by saying all of them did well and it is an open race. Think anyone filled him in on the results?
Finally a good group number that seemed to be sung live. I really enjoyed Danny and Kris in this medley because they sounded modern.
Then the cake debacle. So predictable that they gave someone the clean-up bill. I thought it was good practice for trashing hotel rooms like a real rock star.
Top 5 brought to the center of the stage. I sense tonight's drama...
Matt, Kara and Randy didn't like him, Simon and Paula liked him. He steps RIGHT
Danny, Judges all liked him. He steps LEFT
Allison, Randy Kara and Paula liked it, Simon didn't. She steps LEFT
Kris, Randy, Kara and Paula liked it, Simon didn't. He steps RIGHT
Adam, Judges all liked him. Adam has to pick a group -- I love that he acts like he didn't see it coming. Most performers won't choose, they normally sit down in the middle. But full of himself Adam does pick and goes with Danny and Allison because he thinks he is safe.
HE IS WRONG. Adam, Matt, Kris are the bottom 3 and Allison and Danny are SAFE. WOW, shocker, shocker, shocker. Paula thinks it is crazy and then talks her Mom talk about everyone being great. Ryan goes to Simon for reaction -- he congratulates the two who are safe -- why be so shocked? Randy thinks they are all talented. Kara was shocked mouth open wide that Adam was in the bottom 3 but turns it into a sex joke.
Natalie Cole who needs a new kidney and went on Larry King to ask for one sings next. I have to forward because I feel bad for her. She must not need one that badly because she is going to Korea on tour. Yikes, I am going to hell.
Danny and Allison are safe and Matt, Kris and Adam wait in the wings.
Taylor Hicks comes out and sings a terrible song. I actually like his haircut but the song is being forwarded. Yikes. He dispenses advice to the contestants and Simon had the most bored look on his face. Hysterical.
Matt, Kris and Adam -- one is safe. It is...KRIS!!! Woohoo!! Oh my I am so excited and happy. I wanted him to stay. Relief. Wow, is this going to be the shocker? If Mat had not been saved would Adam not have been in jeopardy? The Save seems to have boosted him. Wow, this is nervewracking. Daughtry made it to top 4, will Adam follow him?
Ryan introduces Kanye West -- I mean Jamie Foxx singing a Kanye West song -- I mean Jamie Foxx singing his own song that sounds exactly like a wannabe Kanye song. He basically just yelled around to his own voice on a track. He ruined his performance as a mentor.
Okay, we're back and it is Matt or Adam. It should be Matt. I know I give Adam hell, but he shouldn't leave yet. I do appreciate the dose of reality. Ryan goes to Simon and once again questions his critiques. Randy and Kara got it right on. Adam is safe. Whew, glad I said the somewhat nice thing about him before.
This was the right decision but happy that Adam got a little scared and Allison finally felt safety. Matt got his shot and a second shot too. The judges were very gracious.
Next week is Rock and Roll with Slash -- a little Sweet Child of Mine anyone??
Also, I'm not going to Idol Finale. Wanted to let everyone know now. No big reason but I have too much going on. I'm still keeping the dream alive with a live blog. I adore my fans.
I have recently fallen in love with Kid Rock and have admitted that, so remember...

This is not my Idol...
Things can't always stay the same, change is good, the times they are a changing...I'm going to admit that this season of Idol is just not as exciting as last season. Then again, the Blake / Jordan season was only good when Blake performed Bon Jovi, and thank god we had Daughtry to come out of the Katherine / Taylor year. I have not given up that these contestants can wow me, and I won't stop watching, but I just wanted to let you know that I am disappointed. I don't blame the producers or judges, it is the contestants -- they are just not as exciting and haven't had many awe-inspiring moments. But there is still time -- come on Top 5 -- WOW ME!
So the Top 5 is Adam, Kris, Allison, Danny and Matt. I am hoping Kris can keep it strong and fun and that Danny can pull something out of his back pocket, he needs to. Tonight's theme is songs from the Rat Pack - which could be fun. The mentor was a surprise -- JAMIE FOXX! That is kind of cool, but I don't believe it was a coincidence that Matt was playing Georgia on My Mind when Jamie walked in. Was Ray Charles part of the Rat Pack? No, but I guess somehow Jamie is. Okay, I'll let that go.
Kris -- "The Way You Look Tonight" I'm a little scared by how slow it is during his rehearsal. Jamie loves him and wants to do an album with him. Awesome. But he is first which always scares me. He looks slick - I like a grey suit. He starts it straight and then changes some phrasing. And then he ups the tempo. It sounds a bit all over the place but he is smooth. Fabulous end note. Eat that falsetto Matt. Randy loves his dawg, Kara used technical and impeccable, Paula's earpiece copied Kara and used impeccable. Simon thought it was wet not dry, safe and he doesn't think Kris can win. I kind of agree I wasn't blown away, but this man better stay in to save the season. VOTE
Allison -- "Somebody to Watch Over Me" She should not have talked about her birthday SUHRPRIIIZE because it was a turn off. I like the song choice. Her voice quality makes everything sound her own and unique. She looked pretty tonight. Does she come up with all of her own phrasing? It is so natural. That run gave me chills. LOVED it. So polished. Wow, Kara has a lot to say. Paula's earpiece knows a lot of words. Simon still doesn't think she believes she can win. I heard him say this week that he sees Adam and Danny in the finals. He is just trying to be right. Remember when he said Gaspy wiped the floor with David Cook at the finale and then took it back when he realized he was wrong? Whatever. I think she has the confidence when she sings, just not when speaking...VOTE
They went back to the old school order of judging - left to right. Not sure I like Simon always going last anymore.
Can we talk about Kara's hair do? I don't like it. It doesn't show artistry.
Matt -- "My Funny Valentine" Jamie gave him advice on how to earn a standing ovation. Hat boy is annoying. I don't think he can redeem himself. Lots of pitchy notes. He was doing his best Jamie Foxx impression though and I am glad that he didn't go falsetto and took Jamie's advice to sing in full voice (otherwise known as chest voice for real singers, not ghetto fab actor turned rapper singers). Randy said no dawg, Kara said no dawg, Paula loved it, Simon said no dawg to the dawg and thought it was authentic. He thought Matt was brilliant. I don't know what universe I am in. BUH BYE
Danny -- "Come Rain or Come Shine" Finally, Danny did something that I thought he could do -- not shout everything, build, find some originality, and just SING! I thought it was one of his best -- not blown away, I thought Allison was better, but the suit was cool, his performance was cool, and he could sing. Agree with Randy that voice is what the judging should be based on - too bad they don't always actually judge based on that. I think Kara and Paula and Simon went a bit overboard, but glad to see Danny back in action. VOTE
Adam -- "Feeling Good" The pimp spot AGAIN? The white suit is killing me. KILLING ME. And the drawing out of the words like SHIIIIIIINE. This is a rat pack song? The Freddie Mercury act is too much. They will say he was original, but he sounds like Freddie Mercury. I want him to not win and let him put out an album and see how it does. It will fail. I hate him. Can you tell? Kara said he was sleazy - I agree, but unlike Miss Artistry, I don't like sleazy. WHATEVER
I am only voting for Kris and Allison and throwing Danny one or two. Here are my ratings.
Kris B+
Allison A
Matt B
Danny A-
Adam I HATE HIM
Matt needs to go home. PLEASE VOTE FOR ALLISON AND KRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
More tomorrow dawgs, and even right now I am not thrilled, I am still obsessed...

Guest bloggers help me out
So I am in LA and had an event tonight and had no DVR to help me, so I have enlisted two guest bloggers -- Jen who I went to college with and who I recently discovered was an Idol fan and Mark, my one time singing partner and fellow Idol adorer. Jen is in straight font and Mark is in italics. This is hysterical - amazing job to both!
Hi! This is Jennifer Niederhoffer, a friend of Rachna’s from NYU, and I’m here to dish on tonight’s results. We’re getting ready for a double elimination after over 45 million votes. [First is group opening number] I hope there’s a costume change because I can’t look at these hideous, poorly interpreted 1970s-esque outfits for a full 60 minutes. It’s interesting how the judges are always so harsh on the contestants when they turn in a hotel lounge worthy performance, but these group numbers make me feel like I’m on a Carnival cruise ship! Where’s Kathie Lee Gifford when you need her?
Group dance number to Michael Jackson's Shake Your Body Down To The Ground choreographed by Paula. Hideous. Paula wearing Fabrice dress from 1986.
Now to the results: Lil is up first? I’m kind of surprised about that. Let’s see… Ryan asks her to walk to the far side of the stage and… Oh, SNAP! Lil is just OUT! No bottom three tonight. See ya. BUH-BYE! Obviously, this is no big shocker. Lil was so promising at the auditions, but had nothing to offer artistically after that. Her performance of “I’m Every Woman” is much stronger tonight, and so she goes out on a high note and gets a standing O from all the judges. Another plus for Lil is that clearly she had a good stylist tonight. She’s wearing a cute and shape-flattering outfit—a complete 180 from last night’s ass-inflating cat suit.
Lil went home. Biggest disappointment contestant in 8 seasons.
And now for the disco medley… Well, I used to love the song “Band of Gold,” but from now on I may have nightmares about this performance. Original disco stars sang!! Freda Payne looking very old singing Band of Gold. She must be 70. I sat next to her at theatre in San Francisco when I was about 9 years old and she stood up and took bow in spotlight. Cannot sing anymore. SAD.
“Don’t Leave Me This Way” is my all-time disco fave. I hope I can be as spunky as Thelma Houston when I reach her age (62). Thelma Houston!!!! Don't Leave Me This Way!!! Still pretty good. Sam and Dudley and I are dancing around living room. She is wearing dressy yellow neglige. She's singing about Simon. (Insert from Rachna, Sam and Dudley are Mark's adorable beagles so I'm sure the dancing around the living room is HYSTERICAL)
Isn’t KC from KC and the Sunshine Band a freakin’ bazillionaire by now? He should just retire and count his money on an island somewhere because he clearly cannot sing anymore. Even his backup dancers/singers looked bored. KC Get Down Tonight! Scary. He should not be doing this anymore. Perverse. Looks like child molester.
Back to the results of the dramatic double elimination. (Their words, not mine.) Oh wait… There IS a bottom three? I’m confused. Anyway, Kris is up and, after some more references to Paula’s “shops in the ladies department” comments from last night, Kris is safe. (No surprise, he was the best of the night.) Now to Adam and the audience is going NUTS. Blah blah blah, we all know he’s safe and probably going to win anyway. Adam has LONG black hair growing out of his ears.
Danny Gokey: too much stubble and not wearing his trademark eyeglasses tonight, so he just looks like a Color Me Badd reject. Hokey Gokey is dressed up as Taylor Hicks.
On to Anoop. That was *so* not his worst performance… Simon must’ve forgotten about Michael Jackson week. Anoop’s in the bottom three to be joined by Allison or Matt. Anoop has colored clothes problems. Sorry Rachna. I know he's your peeps....
Bottom three now or one of remaining bottom two as Lil gone. And Matt safe and Alison also in bottom. Ridiculous. Makes me MAD! (Rachna interjects -- Allison had a moment last night - she should NOT have been in the bottom 3 -- Matt should have!!!)
So, Matt… is safe! That’s a surprise to me. I definitely thought Lil, Matt, and Anoop would be the bottom three. I guess the Michael Buble/Justin Timberlake fans are voting en masse.
David Archuleta is on… awful song, awful album cover. I’m not a fan. Glad that’s over. Archuleta now singing Ed's song...Touch My Hand. Sorry but he puts this years contestants all to shame. He's STAR and adorable. I think Kris should win and he and Archie should do duet. (Rachna interjects -- I will save my opinion til I watch, but I do agree with Mark that Gaspy actually was a lot better than some of the finalists this year, but agree with Jen that I am not a fan either...)
OK, so now we’re down to Anoop and Allison. Ryan says “Good luck to both of you. And, the second person going home tonight is… Anoop Desai.” Boo! Rachna is going to be pissed. I’m sad to say goodbye to Anoop, but not to his bad facial hair.
Anoop going home. Alison safe thank god. The Slumdog WAVE has CRASHED. Back to the frat house. Pack up your colored sweaters and bye bye. He is going to join Jasmine Trias on her Philippines endless tour and then she is going to join him for the Amazing Anoop and Jasmine India tour. Maybe he should have tried Dim All The Lights with Bollywood flavor???
Rachna interjects -- look, I never thought Anoop was going to win it, but he was not that bad (except during Michael Jackson week) Really, no one liked his cover of Always on My Mind? Or True Colors? And come on, but didn't we all start singing My Perogative again? It wasn't because he was Indian, it was because he was a normal guy -- not a theater mess, not a teen idol sensation, not someone who always wanted to be a superstar, not some kid from poverty who would now make it big. For me, he was a first generation American who grew up with normal parents who lived a normal life and tried out for a long shot dream. And you know what, at least 25 million people now know and can pronounce the name Anoop Desai and most of them probably think he is a cool dude who can sing. To me, that is part of the American Dream and the dream of American Idol.
And on that note (and with a shout out to new blog reader "McNally") goodnight and thank you again to Jen and Mark -- you helped keep the dream alive!
remember, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...

In LA for the Top 7 again...
Let me start by saying, I was supposed to see the show in person today and it didn't happen and I am mad, but I don't want to discuss it. So don't ask.
But I am watching, so the blog lives on!! With special guests Ed and Matthew joining me...
Can we talk about the contestants not knowing how to get off the stage? And then straight to Lil's BIG rounds singing typical Chaka.
Lil -- "I'm Every Woman" They put her first -- it is time for her to leave and the producer's know it too. Kara is totally right that she really does not know who she is, vocal rest or not. Simon made it pretty clear that it is time for her to go -- ouch! At least they didn't comment on her outfit. I mean, SERIOUSLY? BUH BYE
Kris -- "She Works Hard for the Money" The boys and girl (me) are swooning over Kris. One of my least favorite songs, but I knew he was going to change it up when I saw the guitar. Loved what he did with it -- original but not weird like Adam. The judges loved it and we loved it and I am convinced Paula is wearing a little ear piece and someone is feeding her some lines - it reminded her of Santana? VOTE
Danny -- "September" As Ed says, predictable. He is good about changing some phrasing and such, and his voice was great, but there is still something missing. Disco gospel? Very shouty. Randy said, "Check it man, check it, check it" He liked what Danny did with the song. Paula's earpiece thinks he has a sexy voice. Simon said star power was missing and I agree, I didn't think he was awkward, but he needs a moment. OK
Allison -- "Hot Stuff" Perfect song choice, perfect arrangement. I would say (and Ed does too) that this is her moment so far. I love that she sticks to what she does best - she really knows her strengths and plays to them. What up Randy dawg? You don't like the arrangement? And Kara doesn't either? Is Paula reading from a teleprompter? That Cyrano de Bergerac act is awesome. I was scared that Simon didn't like it, by calling her the underdog, but he thought it was brilliant -- YES VOTE!!
Our commercial conversation -- can Allison win this? I think there are so many possible winners this season -- several have had good moments, but this race is open -- if Adam, Danny, Kris, Allison, Matt and maybe even Anoop deliver some stellar moments, it could be any of theirs to win.
Can we talk about how good GLEE looks?? Most anticipated show of the year for me.
Adam -- "If I Can't Have You" He has a big head. He has so much hair on his head and wears a lot of "mannery" otherwise known as man jewelry. Of course he sings so well, but so indulgent tonight. The diva scream / sing thing is annoying. He is so musical theater it is bringing back such strange memories. Why would Kara call him inspiring? Why did Paula have a visceral response? She is too much. Paula has a lot of lip gloss on, maybe to transmit the messages to her earpiece. OK
I have to work tomorrow night and have no DVR here in LA, so I might need a guest blogger, any takers??
Matt -- "Stayin' Alive" Maybe he shouldn't have been saved. Ed said JT can't be JT anymore, why would Matt try? I do think it was frantic, but I didn't hate it. But, he is a goner this week. Not enough Matt, not enough. "He has no idea who he is" (quote from my fellow watcher, E-dawg) The judges didn't seem to hate it, that is at least until Simon spoke -- he wasn't a fan. BUH BYE E-dawg needs his own blog because he keeps telling me what to write. He wants me to say: "Matt should not wear that hat."
Anoop -- " " He gets the pimp spot --what does that mean? I like the stache. An original arrangement, but most importantly, really strong vocals. He has such confidence now. It wasn't perfect, but he should not go. Lil and Matt need to leave before him. He looks handsome tonight. Kara liked it and Paula's earpiece did too. Yikes, Simon did not like it at all. He called it his worst performance by far. YIKES! Rally people, rally to save Anoop another week!
Lil -- D (and her butt got an F)
Kris -- A-
Danny -- B
Allison -- A
Adam -- B+
Matt -- C
Anoop -- B+
Send home Lil and Matt.
More tomorrow from your mystery guest blogger.

Top 7 down? and Jennifer Hudson returns to Idol
Let's recap what I think should happen -- Lil, Matt and Danny in the bottom three with Lil or Matt going home. But I am nervous now and this is when I am glad the save exists, just in case. And to all the group commentators from my readers last night -- so much to discuss -- the biggest controversy of the season is going to be Adam Lambert. He really divides people into two camps - love him or hate him. I don't think I've ever seen such a split camp for a front runner.
And now to the episode. I love when Idol producers pretend that they aren't usually doing a low budget production by throwing something new in -- hence the film inspired recap of last night...nice try but it still doesn't cut it. Then the contestants lip sync to Maniac -- why are they lip synching the group numbers? This one was actually well staged without weird dancing, and I loved Kara singing along with Kris. Did you see Anoop almost bite it down the stairs? Or Allison awkwardly trying to sing to Simon - funny. How about Adam over acting again?
I hope they go back to the judges for reactions since they didn't all get to speak about each contestant last night. So cute that the conestants went to a premiere and got their first taste of stardom. I don't like Zac Efron's long hair on the side thing. On to the results. Allison is safe, Adam is safe. Of course he doesn't mind being called out for being reminiscent of Rocky Horror because you know he and his friends went to see it Saturday nights in costume after drama club. And Anoop is in the bottom 3 -- come on my peeps, support the man with your votes, he deserved them this week!! I don't see him at the end, but he still deserves to be there.
So nice to see Jennifer Hudson return to Idol. I'm so glad they didn't make it about her personal tragedy because her career is very deserving of achievement. I recently saw her sing live at the Topshop event in a small restaurant setting and was so blown away. Her voice is just stunning. Natural talent. I wish it was live and not taped so we could see the judges' reactions.
I don't understand Simon so easily saying Anoop should have been in the bottom 3 but then was glad he interjected his comments to Kris that he was brilliant, since we didn't get to hear from him last night. Kris versus Lil. Kris is safe and Lil goes to bottom 3. Matt versus Danny. Once again I am glad that Randy and Kara interjected that they thought Danny worked it out because versus Matt, he should be safe. And he is and Matt is sent to the bottom 3. So the bottom 3 is Anoop, Lil and Matt. I'm okay with that as long as Anoop is safe. I wish the judges had given Anoop some more support. Instead Kara gave Simon some attitude.
Yes, Anoop is safe. America is doing well. And now commercial and live performance by Miley Cyrus. So look, I am not AT ALL a Miley fan. I think she is so annoying, but I have to say that I like this song. It is reminiscent of a country song, which is probably why and is the first time I have heard her sing well (except that performance with Taylor Swift at the Grammy's which was good). So I am looking forward to this performance...Okay, so once you get past her weird pronunciation of trying and her inability to keep her hair out of her face - the song sticks with you, right? Come on, sing with me "There's always gonna be another mountain, I'm always gonna want to make it move, always gonna be an uphill battle, sometimes you're gonna have to lose. Ain't about how fast I get there, ain't about what's waiting on the other side...It's the climb." That's right, you're singing along.
Ryan goes to the judges to see if they might use the save and Simon says there is one of them who he would consider it for and that that person would be surprised. Ryan tries to get him to say Lil, but he won't admit it. Such suspense on this show...
Lil is safe, that is retarted. I don't want to hear her sing again, but at least now there is another safe week for the rest of them, because she should go next week. I wish the judges would listen to the contestant. He is doing better than last night. But not so well to wow them? First time I have felt suspense. I think he is going to cry. Why does the decision always seem to rest with Simon? They decide to save him. BUT it means that two go home next week. And next week is Disco week. I guess we won't really know the consequences of this save until next week. He deserved to be in the bottom 2, so I don't know how I feel about this? Suppose next week someone really deserving gets kicked off? What happens when the judges mess with the fate of the Idol votes? I guess we won't know until next week. And I will be in LA to see the competition live. I love my life.
Remember my friends, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...

Quentin Tarantino as a mentor? But 24 and FNL first!
Before I head into tonight's Idol news, let me say a few words about this season of 24. IT IS AWESOME. So much tension that I sit on the edge of my seat every episode. And last night's episode was beyond. Tears at Jack Bauer's reunion with his daughter who for the first time ever was not annoying, just genuine and necessary. And I won't give away the plot twist in case some have it saved on DVR, but WOW. I don't know how they weave these things together, but the writers have really turned it up a notch this season. Amazing.
And let's discuss Friday Night Lights which ended its season last Friday. This season was full of so much heart and soul and the characters are so real, flaws and all. Coach Taylor having to fight for his job using words which so often fail him, but then delivering a speech to his team that pierced through the heart. Tammy, his wife, having to deliver bad news to her husband with just a look. Matt Saracen deliberating over moving on with life or sticking by his grandmother, the one person who had stood by him. Tyra finally realizing that good things can come her way. Lyla choosing to stick by her dreams and not settle despite everything. And Riggins. Riggins delivering some of the funniest moments of the episode by questioning whether college, which never seemed a choice for him, was the path for him. "Where is my me time?" is how he put it although he has lived his whole life as me time. And then Riggins being able to look back on his football journey with pride even without victory. A quintessential episode of an amazing season. Happy to know that they are on for two more. Anyone who has not watched this show - please buy the DVDs -- share them with friends, make it worth the price. It is so fulfilling.
Okay, having said all that, let's move on to tonight's episode. The top 7 sing songs from the cinema and are mentored by Quentin Tarantino -- seriously? I wanna see what advice he gives...So it starts off with a chuckle as Ryan cedes his opening line to Quentin -- This is American Idol delivered by QT, hysterical.
In order to not go over, the judges will take turns commenting -- that is unfortunate because I like to hear Simon's delivery. Isn't the show worth taking an extra 30 minutes of air time? God knows they take that extra time on results night. Stevie is there from the E Street Band! Let's talk about the intro to QT -- you know he made his own opening movie. He loves himself.
Allison -- "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" A lot of Idol contestants have done this, most recently David Cook last season. I'm scared that she got put first since she has been in the bottom before. I think this is a little too hard - she should have picked something else. I felt like she was punching every note. Simon said she is the girl's only hope to win this competition. Paula and Simon like her! I don't want her to go, but this wasn't a winning rendition. VOTE to keep in
Anoop -- "Everything I Do, I Do For You" I had the same concern that Quentin did, was the song too soft for Anoop that they would forget him before the end of the episode? But no, his voice sounds SO GOOD tonight. I'm swooning a little bit. I admit, I used to dream that some guy would sing this to me. I think it was this guy Merle when I was in 9th grade. This was my favorite performance of his. LOVED IT. Even with his sweaty upper lip. Randy and Kara thought it was genuine and heartfelt. I just saw the sleeves of his jacket, though and they are weird bomber jacket sleeves on a blazer? Whatever. VOTE
Adam -- "Born to be Wild" I'll say it again. This guy is talented, Robert Plant reborn and he definitely changes things up. He sings effortlessly and it is a true gift and he performs with such energy. Despite these things, I still don't care. Is it just me? Please let me know if anyone out there feels the same way as me?? Obviously not the audience who was freaking out. I don't care if he is gay or straight, he is just not my type. Totally agreed with Simon that vocally it was incredible, but the performance was a bit like watching Rocky Horror. There is someone in the audience who is seriously screaming like crazy. I want to see what she looks like. OK
Matt -- "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" This song kind of annoys me, so I'm curious to see what he does. Loved the opening, but the cheesiness of the song does come out when the orchestra joins in. I usually like his tone, but yikes, his voice did not hold up at all - major crackage. Nice effort, but not fantastic by any means. It is hysterical to pair Randy with Kara for criticism - she has a lot to say. OK, but I am scared for him. He is so inconsistent.
Danny -- "Endless Love" Love QT's advice for him to not use his hands. Danny did not totally listen. I wish he was wearing a black suit. I love his voice. The grovel is so good. I wanted another moment, but I really liked it. Simon put it well that he did a traditional version of the song which was a little disappointing. I think the judges want him to do well, but it is true that he hasn't shown real originality which is now very important to win. Season 1,2 or 3, he would already have won, but this is just not enough anymore... VOTE to stay in
Kris -- "Falling Slowly" This song is from the movie ONCE which is one of my favorites. I am now going to write in all caps to express my thoughts...I LOVED THIS SO ****ING MUCH. IT WAS A GENUINE MOMENT AND RELEVANT AND MODERN AND COOL AND I LOVED IT. GAVE ME CHILLS. LOVED IT, LOVED IT AND I HAVE ALREADY RE-WATCHED IT THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FIVE MINUTES. No it was not spot on, but that is actually okay for this song, because it is raw and full of emotion. Kris has moved up on my list. Randy, for me for you, I don't care what you thought. It was awesome. Kara, totally got it -- one of his best performances ever. And one of my favorites of the season. VOTE!!!!!!
Lil -- "The Rose" Another one from my repertoire and they gave her the pimp spot...but she is on my list to go this week. I still think her voice is thin, not round like her butt. I just cracked myself up. Mary J came out midway through. The judges wanted this from her so she probably saved herself from elimination. I'm not drinking the kool aid, but I'm glad she redeemed herself a little. Seriously is someone coaching Paula? How did she know that Amanda McBroome wrote this song? Simon got his criticism dead on so I am going to repeat it "I think that you are getting this completely wrong. The song was too soft for you, it was too middle of the road. You had some nice moments in there but there's no excuses anymore, you are not the artist I believe we met seven or eight weeks ago. I'm getting frustrated..." Right on. BUH BYE for me.
So first let me give you the grades for this week, but also, I am going to then give you my personal overall rankings for the season because I need to analyze and you can't tell me not to.
Allison -- B+
Anoop -- A-
Adam -- B
Matt -- C+
Danny -- B
Kris -- A
Lil -- C
Lil, Matt and Danny should be in the bottom 3 and either Lil or Matt will go.
Overall, here is my ranking for the season : Adam (not my fave, but he delivers), Kris (he is moving on up!!), Danny, Allison, Anoop, Matt, Lil.
Looking forward to Jennifer Hudson tomorrow night...going to listen to Kris again and I am admitting that, so remember, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...

Farewell Piano Man
Let me start by admitting a sad truth. I don't really listen to rap / hip-hop and did not realize that the rapper FLORIDA (which I thought was pronounced like the state) is actually pronounced like Flow rider which is a cool name for a rapper. Okay, I will move on now.
Let's talk about the Frankie Avalon moment used to give Simon's age away. Frankie released a song in 1959 which was the year of Simon's birth. This means he is turning 50 (and he looks amazing for that) but what we also learned is that Frankie himself must be 70? But he looks the same age as Simon. Do not want to know how much work he has done to look the way he does.
Let's also talk about Kara cheering for herself when Ryan introduces her. Weird over the head clapping and hooting.
Not a particularly drama filled night -- was nervous that Adam would lose votes because the DVRs cut off, but they cleared that up right away by pronouncing him safe. Then Ryan pit Kris against Anoop, and Anoop was sent to the bottom 3. This was not completely unbelievable. Then Danny is safe, Matt is safe and Scott is not pitted against anyone but is sent to the bottom three. Finally! Then they pit Allison against Lil and for once, Allison is safe and Lil is sent to the bottom 3. So in the context, having Scott, Lil and Anoop in the bottom made sense.
Simon said that this week there could be a couple but one person in particular that they would have used the save for -- I'm going to think the best of them that the save could have been for Anoop and NOT Lil. But Lil is sent to safety and it is down to Anoop and Scott. Then, thank god, Scott is sent home.
I'm glad the judges actually listened to him perform but I still don't understand why there was a tie as to whether or not to save him. Come on! Whatever. Paula gave him a nice send off (yes I had a tear) and I know he is nice so good for him.
And so now we are down to the Top 7 -- Adam, Danny (not Hokey Gokey as some like to refer to him!), Allison, Kris, Matt, Anoop and Lil in the order that I feel they are at strength wise. Adam is clearly the best singer, but as I've said, he is just not my type, so he hasn't emotionally won me over. Things keep changing with some of them, so we'll see what happens next week!
What do you all think of Kellie Pickler's new song? I know it because it is on CMT and she wrote it with her best friend Taylor Swift, but I am curious as to what non CMT viewers think.
Reminder to set your DVRs to record Southland the new drama replacing ER and starring one time KCD employee Ben McKenzie. CAN'T WAIT!!!
Yes I am dumping Heroes, ER is over and I am adding Southland and Parks and Recreation -- the madness never ends!!

I know you are mad at me, but I have a good excuse!
Couple of things to start off with:
--24 IS FANTASTIC this season. A real drama with tons of action, but more importantly tons of heart and soul. Amazing Jack, just amazing.
--I am dumping Heroes. I simply don't care about them or their powers anymore...
--I Love You Man is one of the funniest movies I have seen ever. Totes McGoats people -- totes mcgoats.
--The Kelly Clarkson album is so much fun. Great variety of pop, rock, dance and even a ballad or two. Great album.
--What a great ER sendoff -- it stuck to its personality -- it wasn't drama for the sake of drama, it wasn't about a wedding or a death or murder, just about the jobs of these doctors in one particular ER. Brilliant ending with the doctors lined up in the ambulance bay awaiting the next crisis. Brilliant work by Noah Wylie this season. Thank you John Carter for all the years.
Now on to Idol -- re-cap of my thoughts last week? Tough theme to get excited about. It was right to let Megan go, although I thought she was fun. Kris was definitely the winner of last week. Now for the Top 8...
I felt like when this season started it was the best Top 12, but now as we have moved forward, I have to say, it is hard to beat the group of last season - there was a maturity and assurance -- it doesn't mean this group is bad, but those were great memories. David Cook, Michael Johns, Carly Smithson, Brooke White, even Chikezie -- that group is hard to beat. And then you throw in consistent although not my style Gaspy? Last season wins for best overall group, and this one needs to step it up.
Danny Gokey -- "Stand By Me" I hate when contestants twist this theme to work for them by using the fact that a cover version of a song was made in the year they were born. There was nothing better in 1980 than this version of Stand By Me? Look, I love Danny, but he is not creating moments, he is just skating by right now. Maybe he needs to be scared by being in the bottom 3. I don't want him to leave because he is my favorite so far, but he is not holding on to me very tightly. VOTE to keep on
Kris Allen -- "All She Wants to Do Is Dance" I am a big Don Henley fan, and when the trumpets started off, I thought, oh no, that is not the song I know. Maybe it would be a nice, modern remaking of the song? I am not a fan of the stage in the middle of the sway bots, either. Need to listen to it again to figure out if I liked it. Just did, and I didn't like the arrangement -- I like when Kris strips it (the songs not the clothes). Wow the songs are so short when the show is only 1 hour long. I agreed with Simon that his voice didn't get to show off during this. VOTE to keep on
Lil Rounds -- She and I share the same birthday. "What's Love Got to Do With It" Now this is when you say, thank god I was born in 1984 so I can pick this song - she could have had a moment. I like her look tonight, but no need to redo the Tina choreography. You know what? Bottom line, her voice is not that good! She is not on key a lot of the time, she has no warmth in her tone. Where oh where is Alexis Grace? No I am not into this or her bubble butt. BUH BYE
Anoop Desai -- "True Colors" GREAT SONG. Great arrangement -- R&B inspired (did someone else do it this way?) He is so much better with slow songs. By the way, I did not think he was rude to Kara last week -- he disagreed with her, but who cares? I wish this could have been longer. I really liked it. Not blow me away, but solid, solid. Agreed with Kara that he is better adding soul to a pop song than trying to sing a soul song. Love that Simon told him he does not have to apologize! VOTE
Scott -- "The Search Is Over" Umm he wanted to drive a train - I can't talk about it. Okay his song choice is a serious problem. I sang this song for YEARS. With so much drama, too. Michael Slezak the blogger from EW, said he should do Survivor so god knows I will read about that tomorrow. This totally sounds dated, but I love this song. He cannot do the rocker intonation of the lead singer, but I couldn't either. This is tough for me, because the song choice is overshadowing the fact that he is not a good singer, but he is just not a good singer. BUH BYE (because he should have gone a while ago).
Allison -- "I Can't Make You Love Me" One of my favorite songs. It was so natural for her -- and it didn't feel like a copycat performance -- it made me want to hear Bonnie do it or her do it - either would be great. I understand what Simon is saying abut her personality, but whatever. Carrie didn't have a personality when she won, and look at her now -- she was flirting on stage with Matthew McConaughey at the ACM's. Guaranteed Kara will write for her album and considering what she has written for Kelly and Pink, it will be a hit. This girl needs to stay. VOTE
Matt Giraud -- "Part Time Lover" I hate this song, so I was scared, but DAWG when he started off, I was blown away. He seems much more in control of his voice. Great originality. Yes, this is what they should all be doing! Danny needs to take a cue from him right now. The judges had to rush their remarks, but thank god they praised him. Excellent. VOTE
Adam Lambert -- "Mad World" Not sure what this song is, sounds familiar but I will have to google (Tears for Fears, I learned). He can sing, but it is boring. But at least he is being him. Not crazy about it or for him getting the pimp spot again. I hope Simon says self indulgent. What Simon gave him a STANDING OVATION!! I don't know -- maybe he is going to win, but will I buy his album? No, I won't. I thought Matt was better tonight. Is it just me? I don't know...

More tomorrow folks...remember, don't be ashamed of your obsessions...
