I am going to start with Idol, but for those who read this for my other interests, scroll down!! I definitely have a lot to say tonight.
Look, I want to start by telling you that last year I was not blown away by the inspirational song week - it was cheesy and the contestants picked the typical sap. But the actual Idol Gives Back show brought me to tears so I am very excited for tomorrow night. But this year's contestants are just SO MUCH BETTER, that tonight proved exciting and inspiring too.
Michael Johns -- "Dream On" Okay, he cannot keep wearing this necktie thing. I did like the song and he did a good job with it -- Steven Tyler is so iconic so it is a bit hard to compete and I totally agree with Simon that he could have done more of a soul thing instead of this rock song, but it was good. VOTE
Couple of notes - Ryan's chihuahua comment about Simon was crass and inappropriate for the inspiration week (as is Paula's weird corset top pushing her boobs out - gross!) But I will say one kind of crass thing -- while watching Michael Johns, is anyone singing "Baby Got Back?"
I love that they show Sinbad in the audience - I mean, really? He deserves a camera shot?
Syesha -- "I Believe" Massive strikes against her for the fact the her roommate Ramy (I can't believe she gave her a shout out with Hey Girl!) is the only one who gets her. But she is right, because I definitely DO NOT get her. Why doesn't she understand the rules of this show? You cannot do Whitney twice and then do a song by a previous winner of Idol. Especially Fantasia. Did she not watch Lakisha last season? She sang it well but I just don't care about her and let me tell you what I believe -- I believe it is time for Syesha to go BUH BYE.
Jason Castro -- "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" He found the perfect song for his guitar strumming soft act. It was genuine but he also sang it - in his way, but with conviction. I still don't think he can or should win, but I appreciate him. Did he mess up the words? OK DOG I'll vote to keep you.
Did anyone catch the Meatloaf ATT commercial? So funny and weird.
Kristy Lee Cook -- "Anyway" For those who do not know, I love Martina McBride and would kill for her voice. When Kristy announced she was singing this I laughed and laughed and laughed some more. Then she started singing and I was giggling. Then she hit the chorus and I stopped. Then I was listening. And then she sang the verse that goes, "You can pour your soul out singing, a song you believe in, that tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang...Sing it Anyway" This was a direct comment to Simon calling her forgettable. And then she hit the notes - really well. And then I decided that she very well may be the SMARTEST Idol contestant ever. She picked a great song, got a dig in, kept her country loyal audience and you know what? She did a great job tonight -- I had wanted her to succeed in the beginning but then she was so terrible, but now she has risen back up. And she did look killer in those white jeans. OK DOG (I'm afraid to vote for her because Carly might get kicked off)
Cannot stop singing that Joe Purdy song from the Kia commercial -- thanks PETE! You know the one that goes " I just can't seem to get it right today, I just can't seem to get it right today... I guess I'm gonna give up, I guess I'm gonna give up..."
And who was that weird Mike Darnell sitting on Simon's lap?? I mean he looked like a troll.
David Cook -- Oh boy. I don't know this song "Innocent" by Our Lady of Peace but it was not appealing. He sang it fine. but it was a weird song. I wish he had done Kyrie Elaison -- I love that song. Is that inspirational or religious? Whatever, I love it. OK DOG
Carly -- "The Show Must Go On" Look this girl's voice is amazing. Bu tonight she showed it has its limits. She couldn't hit things that way she normally does. I also think she is gorgeous and I want to tell her that I was watching Live Aid at 4 in the morning when she was! She just has to work on her song choice -- agree with Simon that it didn't exactly fit the theme. I am voting like crazy to make sure she stays, but could she end up being the Daughtry who gets kicked off prematurely but becomes a force to be reckoned with? I feel bad that Simon makes her so nervous. VOTE
David Archuleta -- "Angels" I LOVE THIS SONG - it brings back memories of my Year at the Keltic for those who knew me then. I was nervous about David A in the beginning - was it too low for him? Was he distracted playing the piano? But then he hit the high notes and just went for it -- it was back to his Imagine moment where he just transcended the problems and gave it his own take. Not perfect, but really great and the emotional value of the song made it the best of the night. VOTE
Did you see the sign that said "Lick Those Lips" to David A -- oh my god.
Brooke -- "You've Got a Friend" Did not like this muzak version. If she had just sang it with piano - no violins trying to make it gospel-y it might have been okay. But she was overwhelmed by lots of muzak and a weird hairstyle. Why does she make the "I appreciate your criticism but I feel bad for you that you don't understand how everything I do is so right and you are so wrong" face? Brooke, I'm not sure that you've got a friend in me anymore. BUH BYE
Tops? -- David A, followed by (I can't believe I'm saying this) Kristy and Michael Johns and Jason Castro. Bottoms?
Syesha followed by Brooke, but Syesha must be the one to go. Wow this order changes constantly!
ON TO OTHER THINGS
Can I talk about regular music for a second? 3 songs I am obsessed with -- all with a singer songwriter vibe and no, they are not country!
Say by John Mayer -- simple, soothing, catchy and just great. I love that ukelele sounding guitar.
Realize by Colbie Caillat -- I love that her voice is raw and real -- for those who are sick of Bubbly, don't turn away from this one -- it is really good.
Out of Body by David Kidd -- I am basically humming / singing this all day long so people in my pod at work probably already know it. It is a great song.
Saw the Sex and the City preview in the movie theater. I thought it would be funny -- sex jokes, silliness, fashion madness. I was practically bawling -- it captured the essence of what the show was about (and hopefully the movie) -- about the hopes and dreams (esp in regards to love) of a woman who lived in NY and the heartbreak she went through and how the one thread that remained intact was her friendships with these 3 other ladies. The city looks beautiful and the outfits are gorgeous on the big screen. I wasn't, but now I am really looking forward to this!
Last, but CERTAINLY not least. Is anyone else weirdly excited about a certain upcoming reunion? Not because you really want to hear a new song or even care about the music, but because you are transported to a time when you thought that maybe one day you could grow up and marry a superstar because you loved him enough to make it happen? A time when you screamed your head off at the sight of them or (as in my case ) videotaped every single TV appearance and then edited them using the ancient video camera into a highlights reel that you may pull out of the closet soon? You know what I am talking about -- NKOTB baby! The New Kids on the Block are back!! Look, I never cared if they reunited, and I doubt I would buy a CD or even see a concert, but when these MEN (in suits, they clean up GOOD) showed up on the Today Show I admit that I screamed out loud a little bit. Here is the youtube clip of their appearance if you want to see it. Donnie Wahlberg was my favorite and still is. I'll be Loving You Forever, Donnie.

I think I have sufficiently embarrassed myself. Thank you to everyone for reading along. Your comments are welcome, and as you can obviously tell, here is my mantra...
don't be ashamed of your obsessions...
